Biography
Dennis Taylor is a torchbearer for Classic Soul and R&B. Born and raised in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, Dennis has been captivating audiences since the age of 12 - a natural performer with an old soul and a deep reverence and extent knowledge for the genre’s golden era.
His voice carries the weight and warmth of legends, but it’s his delivery and stage command that set him apart. A self-taught musician, Dennis channels the spirit of his influences while forging a sound all his own.
From 2012 to 2016, Dennis had the rare opportunity to work closely with Grammy Award-winning producer Bobby Eli - a founding member of Philadelphia’s iconic MFSB Orchestra. That period, which Dennis calls “a master class in Soul,” helped shape his artistic identity and sharpen his skills as both an arranger and producer.
In 2017, Dennis joined the legendary Boston vocal group North Shore Acappella, carrying on the group's legacy after the loss of member Paul Lopes. The group ultimately disbanded in 2022 following the passing of Vinny Straccia - its last remaining original member, and a dear friend and mentor to Dennis. That chapter left an indelible mark on Dennis' musical journey.
Over the years, Dennis has earned a reputation as a show-stopping live performer. He’s shared the stage with icons like The Stylistics, Tavares, Candi Staton, and Bloodstone, and lent his voice as a background singer for R&B royalty including Alyson Williams and Alexander O’Neal. His resume includes performances at major venues like The TD Garden in Boston and The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, as well as international appearances in Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, The Netherlands, and Bulgaria - also including a standout set at the Cotswold Park Soul Weekender in The United Kingdom.
Dennis is also a published songwriter affiliated with Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), a member of The Recording Academy, and a proud member of The National R&B Music Society - from which he received an Appreciation Award recognizing his contributions to the genre.
